It has a sleek, stainless steel (or panel-ready) exterior with a handsome handle, racks with all the customizability and features that are currently available, and cleaning power that’s hard to beat. Of course, when you’re shopping for luxury appliances you’ll need some fairly deep pockets to avoid sticker shock—but if you can afford the Thermador DWHD770WFM, it’ll likely be worth the investment. If you’re looking for a high-end dishwasher that’s a bit more affordable, we’d recommend researching the Bosch SHPM88Z75N.
When it comes to cleaning performance, the Thermador DWHD770WFM hits it out of the park, resulting in a very high number of spotless, dry dishes after a wash, even when it was up against our toughest stains. The Quick Wash in particular was great, getting dishes cleaner in a faster time than the Normal Wash cycle—though the cycle was a bit slower than other dishwashers’ quick cycles.

Plus, the Thermador DWHD770WFM just feels great to use. The door has a good, sturdy handle, the hidden controls are intuitive and respond to a light touch. The racks slide smoothly without wobbling and have adjustable tines. The available exteriors are stainless steel or panel-ready, so it can fit in just about any kitchen.
Overall, the main downside to this dishwasher is its price point, which puts it squarely in “luxury appliance” territory. Still, if it is within your budget, this is one of the best dishwashers we’ve tested.

What we like
It showcases excellent cleaning performance across the board
The zeolite compartment is located in the back right corner of the dishwasher. The zeolite helps the Thermador DWHD770WFM get dishes dry faster than conventional drying.
On all the cycles we tested, the Thermador DWHD770WFM excelled at cleaning and drying dishes in a reasonable amount of time. All of the cycles resulted in the majority of dishes completely spotless and also bone dry. Even our toughest stains were reduced to a few remaining specks, if that.
It even completely cleaned items up on the third rack, which is notoriously difficult to do. The Thermador DWHD770WFM might not have been completely perfect, but it was about as close as we’ve seen in about a decade of testing dishwashers.
There's plenty of flexible storage
The Thermador DWHD770WFM dishwasher's racks have a lot of customizability options, from adjustable tines and heights to stemware holsters.
A lot of a dishwasher’s usability comes down to how well its racks are implemented. Wobbly racks with poor tine spacing can add unnecessary friction to the process. Fortunately, the Thermador DWHD770WFM doesn’t have any problems in this regard. Not only do its drawers glide smoothly without wobbling, but they’re outfitted with just about every feature you’d expect in a high-end dishwasher.
All the tines are adjustable, allowing you to raise them for a load of small items or lower them flat to accommodate larger, bulky items. The middle rack also has stemware holders, to keep delicate wine glasses from smashing into each other during a wash cycle, and can adjust its height.
The third rack is also excellent, though the overall build quality is a bit lower than the bottom two racks. The edges of the third rack can also be lowered, to allow bowls or other bulky items to fit up there.
What we don’t like
It's not particularly efficient with energy or water
One of the downsides of over-achieving dishwashers is they typically accomplish their high performance by using a lot of energy and a lot of water. The Thermador DWHD770WFM is no different, though it’s not the worst we’ve seen. In terms of energy, the difference isn’t a lot: It uses about 50 kWh more energy per year than what we typically see with dishwashers, which is roughly $10 more per year, depending on where you live.
It also uses significantly more water than average—about 991 gallons per year compared to the average of 577. Again, this isn’t likely to break the bank, as water is roughly $1.50 per 1,000 gallons. Of course, those differences will add up over the lifespan of a product, so if you’re particularly fastidious regarding your home’s resource consumption, you might want to look elsewhere.

There currently aren’t many user reviews online for this model, which isn’t surprising given its purchase price. We’ll update this section once more user reviews are posted, hopefully with information about its durability over time.
Warranty
Thermador offers a two-year warranty for this dishwasher, with certain parts covered for up to five years (excluding labor). The standard warranty only lasts for one year, for comparison. Given that the Thermador DWHD770WFM has such a large up-front cost, we’re happy to see the product guaranteed for a longer-than-average time.
Should you buy the Thermador DWHD770WFM?
If you can afford it? Yes. This is one of the best dishwashers we’ve tested to date. It cleans well and relatively quickly, and has all the extras and usability perks currently available in the product space. Other than its high purchase price, there aren’t any real downsides to this dishwasher.
If you’re looking for a great dishwasher that performs just about as well as the Thermador DWHD770WFM but will cost you about half as much, we’d recommend checking out the Bosch SHPM88Z75N.
